Job description

Summary:

To be actively engaged in the implementation of a wholesome and efficient cleaning program by providing a clean, sanitary and safe environment for residents, staff and visitors at the MacDonald Centre for Independent Living.

Responsibilities

Proper body mechanics is required at all times while performing duties

General Housekeeping

  • Clean hallways and designated areas as per schedule

  • Clean public and employee washrooms such as wiping sink, toilets, mirrors and floors

  • Wash floors in common areas as per schedule

  • Clean major and unforeseen spills

  • Spot clean walls and windows

  • Replenish supplies such as soap dispenser, paper towel, and toilet paper in designated areas

  • Collect garbage and dispose of waste

  • Clean air vents

  • Clean offices (wash floors, empty garbage, wipe down furniture, light switch, doorknobs, computer screen, keyboard, mouse, phone, etc.) as per schedule

  • Clean empty apartment after a resident moved out and maintenance has completed repairs

  • Disinfect equipment before their return to the suppliers or to the Center

Resident’s apartment

  • Sweep and wash floors

  • Dust furniture, picture frames on wall, etc.

  • Wipe down light switches, doorknobs

  • Check and clean filters when necessary (air exchanger, A/C unit, air vents)

  • Clean bathroom, including floors, toilet, sink, mirror, spot check on walls, shower curtains, bath/commode chair

Supplies and equipment

  • Replenish supplies in washrooms

  • Notifies Maintenance Manager of product that needs to be ordered to maintain inventory

  • Receives housekeeping products and store them in the stockroom or other designated areas

  • Report to Maintenance Manager when equipment is defective

Other duties

  • Participates in the orientation of new employees

  • Participates in staff meetings

  • Attend all training deemed necessary

  • Report any concerning or serious changes in residents’ conditions to Management or Attendant II on duty.

  • Assist with planning and/or executing a planned collective activity for the residents (i.e. barbecue)

  • Work cooperatively and respectfully with employees in other departments and management

  • Be familiar with the Emergency plan and be prepared to respond to any type of emergency

  • Help prevent the spread of any infectious disease by following proper measures, including but not limited to, proper hand washing, not walking around with dirty gloves, wearing PPE when required, etc.

  • Respond to residents’ needs per request that are not on the schedule, within the scope of this position and as time permits.

  • Share in the upkeep and cleanliness of the employees’ workstation, and employees’ break room.

  • Offer suggestions for improvement if any are identified.

  • Completed require housekeeping documentation

  • Accept related duties assigned by Administration for the delivery of a quality service and efficient operation of the Centre

Requirements

Please ensure that your job offer includes the following requirements:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D

  • Previous housekeeping experience is an asset

  • Ability to demonstrate good working skills

  • Ability to carry out required duties without constant supervision

  • Able to work in a professional environment

  • Physical ability to carry out required duties

  • Ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal) in both official languages – French and English

  • Have a valid First Aid certification
