Job description
Summary:
To provide quality care to residents to support them as required in their daily lives at the MacDonald Centre. This must be done according to the mission, goals, and policies of the MacDonald Centre and the Comfort Life Network. Responsibilities
Resident Care
Support residents with their Activities of Daily Living (ADL) and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL) by being friendly, caring, empathetic, encouraging / supportive, positive, assisting, coaching / guiding and / or supervising them in conjunction with their Care Plan and / or assessments. Please note: When performing all physical duties, proper body mechanics must be applied / are required at all times.
Assist the residents with their Activities of Daily Living, such as:
Assisting residents by supporting personal hygiene such as showers, baths, shampoos, skin care, shaves, perineal care, and nail care.
Assist with other daily living needs such as planning for, preparing and serving meals, assisting with feeding residents as necessary (and cleaning the kitchen area during and after)
Assist with turning, repositioning, changing residents as requested / required.
Assist with safe transfers to chairs, commodes, toilettes, beds, walkers, scooters, and specialized bikes, etc., as required, using equipment such as ceiling and floor lifts, transfer boards, etc.
Assist as required with walking a resident who uses walking tools i.e. walker, canes, walking sticks, and crutches.
Provide backrub / apply muscle soothing cream / gel as requested.
Provide physical and mental health care to the residents within the scope of work of a Personal Support Worker and within the limitation of training received.
Dressing, changing clothes, showering, and any personal care – always consider and try to assist with maintaining the resident’s modesty /dignity as much as possible; when selecting an outfit always confirm the resident approves of what you selected.
Incontinence care (bowel routines including, but not limited to, special irrigation routine, rectal touches; and colostomy care).
Toileting – assist with urinals as required, transferring residents to toilets, commodes and assist further as required.
Catheter / urine bags, assist with changing stint locks, urine bags as requested and disinfecting when changing from night to day or day to night bag.
Help maintain the integrity of devices, equipment as required.
Range of Motion (ROM) Stretching Exercises (passive and assisted ROMs) – perform prescribed personal ROMs as directed
Assist residents with laundry, if a resident has an accident or per your task list.
Collect garbage and dispose of waste properly
Following established policies and procedures, assist with residents taking medications.
Monitor and document using reporting systems in place (i.e. Residents Communication Log) of any changes in residents’ health condition, concerning behaviors, or any other out of ordinary situation that needs to be documented.
Report any concerning / serious change(s) immediately to Management and / or the Attendant II on duty.
Treat each resident, co-worker, employee, and visitor with care and respect and help provide the resident with the most dignity possible, when performing any services.
Assist with planning and / or executing a planned collective activity for the residents (i.e. barbecue)
Training new attendants, following established training procedures.
Help prevent the spread of any infectious disease by following proper measures, including but not limited to, proper hand washing, not walking around with dirty gloves, wearing PPE when required, etc.
Know the emergency plan and be prepared to respond immediately to an emergency (Fire Alarm, Power outage, etc.).
Provide CPR / First Aid treatment in an emergency

Requirements
Please ensure that your job offer includes the following requirements:
College or university degree in the same or related field.
Previous experience as a Personal Care worker preferred
Ability to demonstrate good working skills
Ability to carry out required duties without constant supervision
Able to work in a professional environment
Physical ability to carry out required duties
Ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal) in both official languages – French and English
Have a valid First Aid certification
